LASUCOM INDUCTES 14TH SET OF MEDICAL DOCTORS & 4TH SET OF DENTAL SURGEON
The Lagos State House of Assembly Chairman Ad hoc Committee on Budget Planning Appropriations, Hon. Gbolahan Yishau has called on the newly inducted medical doctors of the Lagos State University College of Medicine to always give back to their societies
Hon. Yishau made this call at the Induction Ceremony of the 14th set of Medical Doctors and 4th set of Dental Surgeon on Friday 11th October 2019 at the College Medical Research Centre in Ikeja.
He urged the doctors to always make sacrifices adding that a doctor’s life is about sacrifices.
He noted that the College Professors made sacrifices for them to achieve what they have become, hence the society will demand same from them.
He assured that the State Government will continue to give the College maximum supports
He thanked the Ag. Provost for all her efforts in ensuring that the College gets the right funding
In his address, the Chairman of the Induction Ceremony, and the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, Prof. Olarenwaju Fagbohun SAN congratulated the newly inducted doctors
Speaking through the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof A.O.K. Noah thanked the organisers
He also thanked the Teachers and Students of the College for being deligient
Earlier in her welcome address, the Ag. Provost of the College Prof. Anthonia Ogbera noted that LASUCOM at 20 years is fulfilling its mandate, as it has continued to produce healthcare professionals who are of international standards
She added that the College has increased the numbers of medical doctors and dental surgeons in Lagos State and Nigeria by extension to 753
She called on the new doctors to always let the words of the Hippocratic Oath resonate with them
She advised them to always treat others the ways they want to be treated adding that the new doctors should always be ready to give back to the society
She advised that those willing to travel should travel with the intention to acquire more knowledge and return to give back to the society
According to her, “the grass is not always greener on the other side. I advice that for those who must travel out to improve on their medical competencies and return to Nigeria early, after obtaining residency/ postgraduate medical training”
She thanked the State Government and the State Governor, His Excellency, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his believe and support in LASUCOM project.
In his message to the new doctors, the Medical Elder of the occasion, Prof. Oluwarotimi Akinola called on the doctors to always be on top of views and controversies in the medical field, stressing that confidence always emanate from knowledge
He reiterated that for any doctors to be successful, he most be compassionate, have a strong work ethics, professional, knowledgeable, confident humble and passionate
He advised them to always comply with ethical standards and to also be elegance in thier dressing.
He admonished them to take good care of their health, wellbeing and abilities in order to provide care of the highest standard to their patients
In his speech, the Registrar Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. T.A.B Sanusi called on the new doctors to adhere strictly with the medical code of ethics
He pleaded with the parent and the society not to put too much pressure on the doctors that will make them go against their medical ethics
He stressed that the induction ceremony is a call to service.
Other highlight of the ceremony included the Presentation of Prizes and Awards to the top three graduands in the classs.
The Chief Medical Director LASUTH, Prof Adetokunbo Fabamwo was on hand to present the gift to the best graduating student, Miss Abigail Arowolo, who came top with honours.
