SUMMARY:PROF. ADEWUYA’S INITIATIVE “FINALLY” COMES TO LIFE; NEW HRM SYSTEM DIGITALISATION LAUNCHED TO STREAMLINE STAFF OPERATIONS
DESCRIPTION:…………….Provost allays growing fear of Downsizing……………….. \nTaking a bold leap towards improving administrative efficiency and streamlining its processes\, the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) officially launched its much-anticipated Human Resource Management System (HRMS) for non-teaching staff on Monday\, 14th October 2024. \nThis state-of-the-art system aims to enhance efficiency\, transparency\, and ease of access to key HR functions such as biodata management\, leave applications\, performance tracking and many others. \nThe HRMS initiative was spearheaded by the College’s Provost\, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya who has been a staunch advocate for digitalizing the institution’s administrative infrastructure. \nFor years\, the Provost had been “loudly” championing the need for a digital HR solution\, arguing that it would not only optimize daily operations but also improve the working conditions and satisfaction of non-teaching staff by making essential services more accessible. \nBefore the official presentation and demonstration of the HRMS\, the Provost expressed pride in the project’s realization\, noting how crucial it was to elevate the institution’s human resource management to meet global standards. \n“For too long\, we have relied on cumbersome manual processes. This HRMS will not only reduce administrative burdens but also ensure greater accuracy and fairness in managing staff affairs\,” Prof. Adewuya stated \nHe also allayed the reoccurring fear of job termination and reassured staff that the system is designed to enhance efficiency\, not to reduce manpower. Addressing concerns that the new technology might lead to job cuts\, Prof. Adewuya emphasized that the HRMS is meant to make operations smoother and more transparent while allowing staff to focus on more strategic and value-adding activities. \n“Your Job is safe and this system is here to support you\, not replace you\,” he assured\, highlighting that the College’s commitment to its staff remains unwavering. \nThe system\, developed by the ICT Unit in collaboration with the Non-Academic Staff Establishment Division\, features user-friendly interfaces and allows staff members to access their personal information and records in real-time. \nIt also integrates advanced assessment tools to support decision-making by the administration\, furthering the College’s commitment to operational excellence. \nThe Head of ICT\, Mr. Richard Arogunjo conducted a live demonstration showcasing the platform’s capabilities. With an audience of non-teaching staff and key administrators\, he walked through the system’s user-friendly interface\, highlighting key features such as biodata uploads\, digital leave requests\, and profile management. \nThe demonstration emphasized how the HRMS will simplify daily administrative tasks and improve efficiency\, aiding the College’s efforts to modernize its operations. \nThis milestone underscores the Provost’s long-term vision for the College to be fully Digital in order to bolster innovation and institutional development. The LASUCOM HRMS is one of several initiatives aimed at improving the overall functioning of the College and ensuring that both academic and administrative staff have the necessary tools to excel.
