The Department

The clinical wing of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Lagos State University College of Medicine is domicile in Ayinke House, LASUTH which has one hundred fifty-three (153) Obstetrics and Gynaecology beds and nineteen (19) cots.

As a result of the refurbishing and renovation work at Ayinke House, the obstetrics wing are temporarily at Ifako-Ijaye and Isolo Maternal and Child Care Centres (MCC) while the gynaecology clinic and wards are in LASUTH, Ikeja.

Teaching and Assessment of Student

Students are assessed on a continuous basis with three In-course Assessments.  The first In-course Assessment is held after 6 weeks, the second after 10 weeks while the 3rd Assessment (End-of Posting) is held after 16 weeks at the completion of the posting.

The first In-course Assessment consists of an MCQ paper, the second In-course consists of both MCQ and Essay.The Third In-course Assessment (End-of-Posting) consists of MCQ, Essay paper and Clinical Examination in the form of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). 

Students are allowed to take this examination only on satisfactory completion of posting on undergraduate clerkship.

The final assessment is a part of the 3rd Professional MBBS Examination andconsists of MCQ, Essay papers, Computer-Generated Objective Structured Clinical Examination, Performance-based OSCE and long cases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  External examiners are invited to moderate the 3rd Professional MBBS Examination.
