The Faculty of Clinical Sciences was established in 2003, after the commissioning of the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) by the Lagos State Government on February 9th, 1999. It was the second faculty to be established after the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.
The Faculty of Clinical Sciences is located in the “Glass House” building and consists of nine departments, including Anesthesia, Behavioral Medicine, Community Health and Primary Health Care, Medicine, Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Child Health, and Surgery. The faculty is currently in the process of adding other departments and programs for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies.
After completing the training curricula in Basic Medical Sciences and Basic Clinical Sciences, and passing the 1st and 2nd professional MBBS examinations, medical students undergo rotation and clinical postings in the eight clinical departments relevant to the MBBS program. The total duration of postings in the Faculty is approximately thirty (30) months, during which they undertake the 3rd and 4th (final) professional MBBS examinations. To pass these examinations, students must obtain an overall pass mark in the course and a pass mark in the clinical aspects of the examinations.
