The Department

Nursing is a science and art based programme. The University based programme was established in 1965 in Nigeria to meet the changes and technological advancement in health, societal needs and demands as well as global professional requirements.

The Department of Nursing programme of the Lagos State University of College of Medicine (LASUCOM) was approved by LASU Senate in 2009/2010 session to prepare graduate nurses to meet the quality health care demands of Lagos State, Nigeria and the global world. In addition, it will prepare professionals for a career in academics and research.

Information To Parents, Student And Employee Of The Institution

Teaching and Assessment of Student

Students shall be assessed based on the prescription of each of the courses been taken. However, the following assessments shall apply for majority of courses:

  • Classroom attendance
  • Laboratory and clinical attendance
  • Laboratory and or clinical examination(s)
  • In-course assessment which may be in form of assignments, written or oral interview
  • Final Examination
  • Field work assessment

Attendance Policy

  • A minimum of 75% attendance for lectures is required of students to write all theory examinations.
  • 100% attendance is expected of students at clinical postings to qualify to attend clinical examinations.
