The Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), on Wednesday the 10th of November, 2021 played host to the 12th Governing Council of the Lagos State University on the Second day of their tour to the external campuses of the institution.
The Ag. Provost of Lagos State University College of Medicine, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya welcomed the Council Members who were led by the Chairman of the Council and Pro Chancellor, Sir David Sumoni and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji – Bello, to the College and reiterated the commitment towards working with the dreams of the Vice Chancellor for the advancement of the Lagos State University.
“We call ourselves the Pride of LASU not just because we want to but because we have excelled beyond all parameters to be regarded as such” he said while giving a brief background of the establishment of the College and its development till date.
The Vice Chancellor, in her address, applauded the management and staff of the College for their dauntless efforts towards nurturing disciplined intellectuals that have been a boastful testimony to all organizations and fields they have found themselves.
The Council Members were then led around the College by the Ag. Provost starting from the newly constructed TETFUND building which houses the Nursing and Clinical Skill Laboratories and lecture halls and then proceeded to the Four Faculties of the College starting from the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences. At each faculty, they were ushered in by their respective Deans who ensured the Council Members had an on-site observation of their facilities.
The Students Hostel Complex, Cafeteria, MRC Building, Laboratories and the Dentistry Research Center were not left out as the Council Members were heralded by the respective head of each unit.
The team then proceeded to pay an unscheduled visit to the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabanwo who welcomed them with gusto and cheered the efforts of the Ag. Provost towards maintaining a symbiotic relationship with the Hospital.
“The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital is in place and functioning exceedingly well because of the College and Vice versa. One cannot exist without the other” he said.
The Council Members returned to the TETFUND building where the tour began and the visit was brought to a close by the Ag. College Secretary, Mr. Ogunkoya.
