The Department of Preventive Dentistry is made up of two units namely: Community Dentistry and Periodontology.
Students are assessed on continuous basis with two In-course assessment in the Rain and Harmattan semesters. There are un-announced short quizzes given, which form part of the cumulative regular In-course tests.
Preventive Dentistry is examined as part of the Final BDS degree Examinations. The examination in Preventive Dentistry is in three parts comprising Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Essay (written), Clinical Examination including Viva Voce and Practical Examinations. Candidates must satisfy examiners in both practical examinations to be adjudged satisfactory.
A minimum attendance of 75% at requisite departmental activities is required for the student to be eligible for Examinations.
