Professor AJONUMA Louis C. received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Lyceum Northwestern University, Dagupan City In 1990.  After that, he had Postdoctoral Training in Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan from 1993 to 19194. He then obtained his Master in Medical Sciences (MMedSc.) in 2002 from The University of Hong Kong and PhD in 2004 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.  After that, he had Postdoctoral Training in Epithelial Cell Biology Research Centre (ECBRC), School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2004 t0 2007.  In 2007, he moved back to The University of Hong Kong as a Research Assistant Professor, and later in 2009 became the Scientific Director of Geniuscom International. In 2013, Prof. AJONUMA joined Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) as Associate Professor. He was promoted to a Professor in 2018. 

He served as Acting Head, Department of Physiology (2014 -2018) and Acting Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences 2018 – 2020 and from 2022 to present as Dean. Prof. AJONUMA has major research interests in Reproductive physiology & endocrinology, Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) and Infertility, Functional genomics and characterization of reproductive tract epithelial specific new genes, Reproductive toxicology and developmental biology, Cancer and Epithelial Cell biology, Clinical Trials including Traditional African Medicines in disease treatment and some specific diseases. He has published many original articles including those in Human Reproduction Update, Nature Cell Biology, Human Reproduction, Fertility & Sterility, Cell Biology International, Molecular Endocrinology, etc.

Research Interests/Specialisations

His clinical interest includes evaluating head and neck cancer surgery and microvascular reconstruction outcomes. His laboratory interests include distinct genomic variants amongst African cancers and onco-viral promoters. He has published in several local and international peer-review journals. He teaches both MBBS and BDS courses. He is a lover of swimming and fishing, but he isn’t good at either.
