Activities

1. Academic activities
Clinical meetings, journal clubs, mortality and morbidity reviews and research groups which hold on a regular basis.
2. Clinical services
Provide services to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital at the Main Theatre, Surgical Emergency Theatre, Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Unit, Gbagada Burns and Trauma and Ayinke House for maternal service. It also provides coverage for sedation in the Dental Clinic and Radiology suites as requested. Department has steadily become centre for specialized anaesthesia rotations by residents from different parts of the country and also assists the state government in public outreach programmes.

Objective

  1. Undergraduate training
  2. To train medical and dental students in basic life support and resuscitation, management of respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest and the unconscious patient
  3. To introduce students to basic principles of operative anaesthesia, different techniques of Anaesthesia and to perform simple regional blocks and sedation
  • To teach students on the pharmacology of drugs used in anaesthesia, analgesia and regional blocks
  1. To introduce students to the intensive care unit, ventilator support and anaesthesia for specialized surgeries
