Academic Background, Trainings, Skills, Positions, Teaching, Achievements (in Summary).

I attended Sancta Maria Primary School , Enugu, Local Authority Primary School, Asaba and St. Patrick College, Asaba. I studied Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka graduating with MBBS in 1981. I trained in Paediatrics at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital culminating in the awards of the Fellowships of the West African College of Physicians in 1989 and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 1990. My special practice, teaching and research interests are in Neonatology. In December 2020, I was awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree (by research) of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. After residency training, I taught at the then Ogun State University rising to the position of Senior Lecturer in 1995. Between 1995 and Jan 2004, I worked as paediatrician and neonatologist at the Havana Specialist Hospital, Suru-Lere, Lagos. In February 2004, I was appointed Senior Lecturer by the Lagos State University and subsequently Professor in April 2007. I have served as Acting Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Deputy Provost, Deputy Vice Chancellor and then Acting Vice Chancellor. I served as Secretary, Faculty Board of Paediatrics of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria between 2003 and 2006 (inclusive) during which period I was a member of Senate of that College. In the West African College of Physicians, I was Chief examiner between 2015 and 2019. I have been an examiner to both Colleges since the year 2000. From September 2007 to December 2019, I was away on a leave-of-absence to assist the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons strengthen postgraduate medical education. I was appointed Faculty Chairman of Paediatrics and Chief Examiner. I have since returned to my duties as Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health in LASUCOM. I count among my most prized achievements, guidance and supervision of fifty (50) Fellowship dissertations in five different training institutions.

My primary research interest is in Neonatology.
